Description

The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 48/12-30A is an isolated DC-DC charger designed to convert a 48V source into controlled 12V charging for a separate service battery. It is well suited to boats and vehicles where a starter or propulsion battery system operates at a higher voltage than the house bank and where precise charging is needed to protect both battery systems.

The charger uses Victron’s adaptive three-stage bulk, absorption, and float algorithm and supports both lead-acid and lithium batteries. Built-in Bluetooth provides wireless monitoring, configuration, alarms, and firmware updates through VictronConnect. The charging algorithm is fully programmable, and the unit can also be configured as a fixed-voltage DC power supply when that better matches the application.

Engine-running detection allows the Orion-Tr Smart to stop charging when the source system is no longer active, helping prevent unwanted starter-battery discharge. Remote on/off terminals support control from a switch or relay, and multiple chargers can be connected in parallel to increase total charging capacity. The design is short-circuit protected and temperature protected, maintaining full rated output through normal ambient conditions before reducing current at higher temperatures.
