Description

The Victron Centaur 24V 40A charger is a rugged three-bank marine charger designed for reliable service in heat, humidity, and salt air. Its aluminum epoxy-powder-coated housing, drip shield, stainless steel hardware, and acrylic-coated circuit boards provide added protection against corrosion and the environmental stress found aboard boats.

The Centaur accepts a wide range of incoming AC power without adjustment and can also operate from a suitable high-voltage DC source. Three isolated outputs allow separate battery banks to charge simultaneously, with each output capable of supplying the charger’s full rated current as system demand changes. This gives the charger flexibility for vessels with independent starting, house, and auxiliary banks.

The automatic three-stage charging process uses bulk, timed absorption, and float charging. An internal temperature sensor compensates charge voltage as temperature changes, while thermal protection can reduce charging current if operating conditions become extreme. A DIP switch lets the installer choose the appropriate charge and float voltages for flooded lead-acid, gel, or AGM batteries. The combination of universal input, robust construction, and straightforward multi-bank charging makes the Centaur a practical choice for cruising and workboat electrical systems.
