OTTER-Messer Olive Stainless Large Mercator Lockback

Description

The OTTER-Messer Large Mercator pairs a 3.38-inch spear point blade with an olive-coated stainless handle and a lockback. Made in Germany.

The Mercator has been made in Solingen since 1867, and the cat stamped into the handle is where the Black Cat nickname comes from. German soldiers carried the pattern through both world wars. The handle is a single sheet of steel folded around the blade, with no scales or liners at all. That construction is what makes the knife so flat that it disappears in a pocket, and it is why the design has survived unchanged for over 150 years.

Olive rather than the traditional black is a modern colorway, and the spear point gives a symmetrical blade with the point on the centerline.
