Newmar ERC-12-15 Emergency Backup Relay Charger

Description

The Newmar ERC-12-15 Emergency Relay/Charger provides automatic backup-battery switchover for critical 12V communication equipment. If the normal DC power supply fails or AC input to the supply is interrupted, a fast-acting SPDT relay transfers the equipment to a standby battery so operation can continue.

When normal supply voltage returns, the ERC reconnects the equipment to the power supply and removes the standby battery from the load. During normal operation, the unit directs a small maintenance current to the battery so the supply can also act as a trickle charger without requiring a separate modification. Typical trickle current is approximately 0.1A.

The relay is rated for 10A continuous and 15A intermittent current over a 10.0-14.5V DC input range. Wiring should be kept as direct as possible, with conductor size increased as total circuit length grows. The unit can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted without affecting operation.

The ERC should be installed close to the battery but not inside an unventilated battery compartment or another location where explosive gases may accumulate.
