The McMurdo BreakHRU is a Hydrostatic Release Unit built for Category 1 EPIRBs, smaller than most other HRUs on the market. It’s unique in using a small pyrotechnic charge to let EPIRBs automatically float free when submerged.

Built on technology exclusive to McMurdo, the pyrotechnic charge fires once submerged under roughly 13 feet of water, automatically releasing the EPIRB, as simple as that.
