MAM has worked in Portugal since 1870, and the Sportive is their liner lock pattern rather than the traditional friction folders the country is better known for. Beechwood is a pale, close-grained hardwood traditional to Portuguese and Spanish knives, light and easy to shape, and it takes a finish that warms with handling. The clip point drops the tip below the spine line for control while leaving a long belly for general cutting, and a liner lock adds security a traditional slip joint cannot offer.

Stainless suits a knife likely to meet food, damp and outdoor use in the same week, resisting the staining a carbon blade picks up without regular drying.
