Description

The Gator Guards SkegShield is a stainless-steel skeg guard designed for Mercury Outboard. It protects the lower unit’s skeg from impacts and abrasion and can also provide a practical repair option for an already damaged skeg when the exact SkegShield model is matched to the engine or stern-drive application.

The guard uses 18-gauge mirror-polished 316 marine-grade stainless steel with a reinforced lower edge for added strength in the area most exposed to impact. Shearable mounting bolts are designed to help limit gearcase damage during a severe strike, while an integrated drain hole prevents water from being trapped inside the installed guard.

Installation uses mechanical fasteners rather than welding, adhesive, epoxy, or curing time, so the boat can return to service quickly after a correct fitment and installation. Verify the exact engine model, horsepower, gearcase, and year before drilling. If the motor remains under warranty, check the manufacturer’s requirements concerning drilled skeg mounting holes.
