Description

A carbon monoxide detector needs to go in every accommodation space aboard; a small craft or RV with an open layout might get away with just one, but if two or more sleeping areas are partitioned off from each other, each one needs its own detector. This Fireboy-Xintex CMD6-M Series CO Alarm, in white with an internal battery, is built to fill that role.

A microprocessor-driven sensor measures CO levels using a Time Weighted Average (TWA) process, tracking CO concentration, temperature, and time together to calculate Carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) levels, the degree to which the blood’s oxygen-carrying capacity is impeded by carbon monoxide binding to hemoglobin, expressed as a percentage. Since the body absorbs CO more readily than oxygen, COHb reflects the ratio of absorbed carbon monoxide to oxygen in the bloodstream, and the alarm calculates that ratio as a function of time to determine the right alarm response rather than triggering on a raw CO number alone.

Up to 10 of these alarms can be interconnected, so every connected unit sounds together if any one of them trips, and the compact design stays inconspicuous. It resists most chemicals, solvents, and cleaners, and this internal-battery model runs on included maintenance-free lithium-metal batteries, no wiring required, cutting both labor and material costs to install. Sensor life runs approximately 7 years to end-of-life.
