Description

The ARCO Zeus A275L Vortec Alternator is a high-output 12V charging system built for boats, RVs, military vehicles, and commercial equipment that place heavy demands on onboard battery banks. It is engineered to generate substantial charging current across the operating range, including at idle, helping reduce generator run time when the engine can supply the vessel’s electrical loads directly.

ARCO uses an aggressive thermal-management package to keep the A275L producing power under sustained load. Heat-shedding E-Coat or Cerakote finishes absorb less heat, the rectifier is positioned on the exterior of the housing, dual cooling fans move air through the alternator, and OEM-grade components support durability. ARCO states that the design runs approximately 8-20% cooler than incumbent alternators, allowing more amperage to be sustained for longer periods.

This large-frame model uses a 138mm stator, 16-pole P-type field design, and internal/external regulation. It operates internally by default but includes an adapter for optional external regulation. An ARCO Zeus Bluetooth Alternator Regulator can be added for more advanced charging control and is recommended for maximum performance or lithium battery charging. Default output voltage is 14.1V.

Published performance includes up to 311A cold output at 9,000 alternator RPM, 227A sustained hot cruising output at 6,000 RPM, and 198A sustained hot output at 3,000 RPM. The alternator cuts in at 1,061 RPM, supports up to 19,000 alternator RPM, and is rated for a maximum continuous operating temperature of 110°C.

Electrical and drive details include an M8 side-mount battery post, 49K6 six-groove 49mm pulley, 17mm pulley shaft threaded M17 x 1.5, included pulley nut and washer, and six positive plus six negative 50A avalanche-rated diodes.

The Vortec/GM pad-mount configuration replaces Mando-type alternators found on many MerCruiser and Volvo Penta GM-block engines, including listed 3.0GLM, 3.0GLP, 4.3GXi, 5.7GiL, and 5.7GXiL applications.
